Policy

The British music industry is at the heart of the creative economy and contributes significantly to UK culture and society, as well as to economic productivity.  Specifically, the UK music industry generates over £6 billion per annum, contributes significantly to exports and provides more than 130,000 UK jobs.  This enormous value is fully recognised by Government as well as the pivotal role that the creative industries all provide to Britain's future prosperity.

"Creativity is at the heart of British culture -- a defining feature of our national identity.  And today, the force of British creativity is renown throughout the world... In the coming years, the creative industries will be important not only for our national prosperity but for Britain's ability to put culture and creativity at the centre of our national life."  - Prime Minister Gordon Brown

UKMusic represents the UK music industry as a whole.  We engage in public policy development at national, EU and international levels to ensure that the interests of our members are effectively advocated and considered.
