British Music Rights comments on the EC Recommendation on collective cross-border management of copyright for online music services
13th June 2005

The European Commission has now published its recommendation on the collective cross-border management of copyright and related rights for legitimate online music services.

Emma Pike, Director General of British Music Rights, said:

"We welcome the EC's decision to streamline the licensing of online services across Europe. The EC's published recommendation lays out a vision for EU wide collective management which will be driven by creator choice. Under this regime creators remain at the heart of licensing and they can choose which rights to grant to which society, in which territory. This recommendation sends a clear signal to collecting societies to work even harder to deliver value back to their members in a transparent, fair and equitable manner."
